Island Black Start Capability

Advanced Power Solutions

Providing the critical "spark" to restart an isolated island grid with zero frequency collapse following a total blackout.

The Challenge

An island power plant required two diesel generators to provide “Black Start” capabilities for their gas turbines. In an isolated island grid, voltage and frequency stability are extremely volatile. The client needed units that could handle high-impact loads and provide near-instant stabilization without tripping the system.

The Ergovolt Solution

We moved beyond the “standard” factory spec to engineer a bespoke solution tailored for grid-critical performance.
  • Enhanced Stability: We integrated PMG Alternators to ensure the AVR has a constant, isolated power supply, preventing voltage collapse during heavy motor starting.
  • Precision Control: Utilizing Electronic Governors and high-sensitivity AVRs, we achieved superior frequency response and voltage regulation, far exceeding standard industrial requirements.
  • Synchronization Logic: The units were configured for seamless integration with the plant’s existing control architecture, ensuring they could provide the initial “spark” to bring the entire grid back online.

The Result

Successful delivery and commissioning of two high-spec units that provide the island with a reliable failsafe, proving that Ergovolt can handle the most sensitive and critical applications in the power generation industry.
